For those who are moved to say “I stand with Ukraine,” but are able to do little beyond make that declaration or donate small amounts, here is some info.

Major humanitarian groups are already at work, and various fundraisers have sprung up, but I wanted to know what nonprofits have strong ties to Ukraine and have established contacts there. I checked in with Ukrainian-American friends of many years’ standing who have always been highly active in support of Ukraine’s independence and sovereignty. Here are grassroots organizations within that community who are working to help right now with humanitarian aid, medical training and medical supplies. All of these are 501©3 groups and my contacts tell me they have verified their credibility with the U.S. State Department.

In addition, the World Central Kitchen has set up shop, providing hot meals , in Poland where displaced Ukrainians are crossing the border in thousands. However, you cannot direct your donation to a specific region.
